That being said, this is a nice change from the classic pecan pie. The apples help break up the monotony of the sometimes overly sweet filling with a subtle tartness. The apples are first sauteed in butter with a splash of Sailor Jerry's spiced rum, orange zest and vanilla.

Chopped, toasted pecans are added to the mix then blended with dark brown sugar, eggs, homemade orange-vanilla syrup and pure maple syrup....need I go on? As with most of the desserts here, lightly sweetened whipped cream certainly would not suck.
And not to sound too cliché....
it would make a seriously nice gift.

Apricot Tart
A family tradition.
Growing up with a German mother we'd frequently be on the receiving end of many delicious tarts and cakes. But probably the most ubiquitous was the apricot tart. Mom would make this (and still does) whenever we were expecting guests, to be served with afternoon coffee. Although this was "adult time" I would happily put up with the unwarranted attention I'd get knowing a slice would be presented to me with a dollop of freshly whipped cream.
This recipe goes back three generations. Well, part of it does. One day when my mother, Welda, found a recipe for a cherry tart she opted to substitute the cherries for apricots. This is where we go back a generation to my mother's mother, Welda. It was her crust. And a delicious family tradition was born.
